What Are You Looking For in a Dental Bridge? Select from Traditional & Implant-Supported Bridges

A traditional dental bridge is supported on either side by dental crowns. We also provide implant-supported bridges that require no alteration of healthy teeth.

Traditional Dental Bridges Are a Fast, Affordable Solution

The traditional dental bridge consists of two crowns with artificial teeth (pontics) positioned between them. The bridge is held in place by your natural teeth (called "abutment teeth" in this case) on either side of the gap. These teeth will be reshaped to accept the crowns. Once in position, the artificial teeth (pontics) will fill the gap in your smile.

Traditional dental bridges are a quick way to replace a missing tooth, but Smile Designer of Leesburg makes the process nearly immediate. While many practices take two weeks to place a dental bridge, we can often do it in one day using our state-of-the-art CEREC technology, which allows us to design and create your bridge while you wait.

Implant-Supported Bridges

These bridges are held in place by dental implants, which replace lost tooth roots and provide exceptional stability.

Implant-Supported Bridges Promote Long-Term Health

Unlike traditional dental bridges that require support from other teeth, an implant-supported bridge stands on its own. It is supported by dental implants, which are titanium devices inserted into the jawbone to replace lost tooth roots. Implants not only provide excellent support, but also stimulate your jawbone in a way that prevents the bone recession that follows tooth loss.

If you are missing one tooth, a single dental implant will be used to support a dental crown. If you are missing several teeth in a row, then two implants will be used to support the bridge at either end. Because implant-supported bridges are self-supporting, they are ideal for replacing unreliable cantilever bridges.

I just had my appointment today as a new patient and loved every second of it! Everyone is so welcoming and very eager to answer any questions. They are also very informative about what they are doing and if they see anything that’s worth noting. There is parking right in the back so that was convenient ... Overall a great experience!! When Dr. Ju came in she went over each of my X-rays with me and explained anything she was going to keep an eye on. 10/10 recommend!

How Long Does It Take to Get a Dental Bridge? Treatment Timeline for a Traditional Bridge

We use advanced CEREC technology for same-day dental bridges.

Preparing Nearby Teeth

The natural teeth on either side of the gap (abutment teeth) will be reshaped to hold the dental crowns created as part of the bridge.

Impressions

The dentist will recreate a precise impression of the treatment area. Depending on the material chosen for your bridge, such as porcelain or zirconia, we will either mill your dental bridge ourselves or send it to a trusted lab. If your dental bridge is sent to an outside lab, we can  provide a temporary bridge.

Bridge Fabrication

Whether a skilled dental ceramicist fabricates your dental bridge, which takes about two weeks, or we mill it immediately at the practice, our dentist will ensure the crowns and pontics match your natural teeth.

Placement

Your dental bridge will be tried on and adjusted as needed to ensure it is comfortable and the pontics are positioned correctly. Once you and the dentist agree on the result, the dentist will secure it in place.

Implant Placement

We use a 3-D cone beam CT scanner for ideal placement of your implants. When you come in for surgery, our implant specialist will numb the treatment area and then make small incisions in the gums so the implants can be placed.

Healing Period

Dental implants require three to six months to fuse with the jawbone. We can provide a temporary bridge during this healing period.

Abutment Placement

After the implants have fused with the jaw, small incisions will be made in your gums so the dentist can attach small connector pieces, called abutments, to the implants. It will take about two weeks for your gums to heal after this step.

Impressions

After you have healed, we will take an impression so we can design your dental bridge. In many cases, we can design and create your bridge immediately. Otherwise, we send detailed information to our trusted lab for fabrication.

Placement

When your dental bridge is completed, the dentist will inspect it and test the fit. When you are both satisfied with the result, the bridge will be carefully attached.
